Why Choose Kids Are Cool?

Texas State Standards for Childcare is called MINIMUM STANDARDS, I find this Ironic.

The State does have a voluntary program called Rising Star for centers that want to improve the quality of their program. It requires a lot of work, doubles your inspection cycle, and in some instances, lowers the staff to child ratios for your center.  If you pass, you will be awarded with a 2, 3, or 4 Star Rating, 4 Star being the highest rating.

I’M PROUD TO SAY WE ARE A 4 STAR FACILITY

AND THE ONLY ONE I KNOW OF IN THIS AREA

Additionally, we just received the honor of being recognized and awarded:

EXEMPLARY CENTER FOR LUBBOCK & THE SURROUNDING AREA FOR 2010.

Many people have different ideas on what childcare should focus on, for me, its building their Self-Esteem and improving their Social Skills.  When you empower a child with self-confidence there is nothing that child cannot accomplish.

Sign language – We start in the Baby Room and continue thru the age of 2.  They’ll learn over 60 signs in their first two years here.  This helps to increase their vocabulary, lessen their frustration, and gain confidence within themselves.

From 2 to 3 years, they’ll learn Songs, Colors, Shapes and we introduce Spanish. Please understand they won’t remember Spanish, at this age it’s easy to learn and is one of the best ways to build Self-Confidence.

At age 3, we work on Letters, Numbers, Days of the Week, Months and Holidays.

Developing Positive Social Skills starts early.  At 1 a child is Territorial, they don’t understand Sharing, and spend their energy learning about themselves and their abilities.  As they grow, we stress Friendship, Sharing and Caring.  And by age 3, they’re dealing with Democracy in action, a perfect example of this is on Friday’s when it’s movie day, Imagine 12 kids all bringing in their favorite movie, yet we only watch one.  That’s Democracy in action, and a good basis for building their Social Skills.

At age 4, they enter our Pre K, where we use the BEKA program to teach them reading, writing and counting.  BEKA is a Phonics based program with proven results.  By graduation, they should be able to Read small sentences, such as 3 to 5 letter words, and 5 to 7 word sentences.  We teach counting up to 100, by 1’s, 2’s, 5’s, and 10’s.  This is the beginning stages of arithmetic.

For our school age children, we utilize the Southwest Sportsplex for our after school program where they can take advantage of the many built in facilities located there, such as Skating, the Indoor Playground as well as an outstanding oudoor playground.  For our schoolers, we typically exceed the states standards for Teacher to Child Ratio.  The state standard is 1 teacher to 25 children, I think that's crazy, so we operate at a 1 teacher to 17 children ratio.  We do this because our facility is huge and our kids are more physically active than in a typical daycare.  The result is a lot less accidents, and overall, less issues.
